Preparing Beber Camp for Winter - November 2024 Site Update

As the days grow colder, the Beber Camp site team is hard at work getting camp ready for the harsh winter months. We go through a thorough process to protect facilities, equipment, and supplies from the elements (and curious critters!) so everything is in great shape for the next camp season.

Securing and Storing Equipment
One of our first steps is putting away everything that won’t be needed until summer—boats, docks, outdoor sports gear—all safely stored to prevent weather or wildlife damage.

Winterizing the Camp
Winterizing our buildings is a key priority, especially in lower camp, where there’s no heat. We drain water from all pipes and toilets, add antifreeze to drains, and blow out underground lines to avoid any freezing. In the heated Perlman Village, we install temperature monitors to ensure everything stays safe from winter’s freezing effects.

Food and Pantry Donations
Any food items nearing expiration are donated to the Mukwonago Food Pantry, ensuring nothing goes to waste while supporting our local community.

Offseason Projects and Upgrades
We started the offseason by replacing the steps on the back of the Rebs cabins, and we’ve also installed better lighting in the health center and staff lounge. A major comfort upgrade is underway as we swap out old mattresses with new, 8-inch models. Housekeeping takes advantage of this time to deep-clean and wax floors—making the dining hall, in particular, shine. And for security and operational needs, we’ve laid fiber in lower camp, enhancing our ability to monitor the grounds year-round.

Pest Prevention and Housekeeping
To prevent any uninvited guests in the cabins, we remove soaps and sanitizers and use pest control solutions.

These winter preparations are part of our annual routine, ensuring that each year we’re ready to make camp even better than the last.
