Packing for Camp 101
Let's get ready for Camp! We have all the insider secrets & reminders - to get you ready for this summer!
Feel free to reference these tips as you pack, and while your campers are away at camp!
Featuring:
- Odds & Ends
- Letters & Mail
- Approved Devices
- Laundry (Coming Soon!)
Odd & Ends:
- Jerseys: Every Friday night, (typically older) campers oftentimes take it upon themselves to participate in “Jersey Friday,” wearing their favorite jersey for Israeli Dancing. Jerseys can be any sport or style, and are a fun unofficial Beber tradition led by campers.
- Labeling Clothes: You should label EVERY article of clothing that goes to camp (no matter how old your camper is)! Lost & Found, or even just the shared space of the cabin, can make it difficult to reunite missing clothes without it being labeled.
- White Shabbat: The first Shabbat of every session is a White Shabbat, where all campers and staff are asked to wear white. Make sure you pack a casually-nice outfit in white! Appropriate Shabbat-dress includes button downs, polos, skirts, and sundresses.
- Bath Robes: Bath robes are great when waiting in line to use your cabin shower, or heading to the showerhouse. They are amazing because you don’t need to hold it up, and can instead carry your items! Great for young kids, and boys who use the shower house more frequently.
- Packing Cubes/Organizer Bins: A hack to staying organized? Packing cubes/organization cubes! Campers with foldable organization boxes are proven to have a more organized cubby, and lose less clothes!
(11' max height recommended)
- Extension Cords: There are only a handful of outlets in each cabin, therefore if your camper has a device needing charging or electricity, an extension cord can make the summer charging easier.
- Small Group Games (For down time): Your camper has 1 hour for downtime EVERY DAY! Many campers choose to spend this time playing cards or another activity with friends. If your camper enjoys staying busy, consider sending fidgets or group toys for their downtime. But remember, anything brought to camp has the chance of breaking/becoming lost.
Letters & Mail:
How Often Do Campers Get Mail? 6 Days a week! (Staff too!) Our Office sorts and delivers mail daily. Mail is delivered to bunks during rest hour (1:00 PM) every day except for Saturday. (Mail we receive on Saturdays gets delivered on Sunday).
You are welcome to send as many letters as you can write while your camper is away. We also have an email system through CampMinder or the Campanion App. Emails are printed by our Office at 10:00 AM every day (except Saturday) and delivered with the mail.
What Can Be Sent Home? Campers can send out an unlimited supply of letters. It’s a great idea to send them with a list of addresses of friends and family. These addresses can also be pre-printed on stickers. Or, even easier, pre-address the envelopes.
Campers receive 4 email sheets per session. If they choose to write an email home , that sheet is scanned by our office and will be emailed to the labeled parent later that day. This is a great choice for campers who want to make sure their message reaches home within 24 hours.
Beber Camp does not supply stamps. Please pack with your camper.
What about Packages? The only packages permitted are those in flat envelopes.
We do not accept Amazon packages unless pre-approved for emergencies (below)
This is due to a few reasons including limited space to deliver mail/in the bunk, and encouraging campers to not spend their camp time focused on expected packages.
We do encourage limiting the amount of packages sent for reasons stated above. A gentle reminder - anything brought to camp is at risk of damage/lost. Therefore, we encourage you to not send high value items.
All packages will be opened by our Office Team prior to delivery for safety.
If any item prohibited at camp is shipped, our team has the right to remove it from the package. If a package is sent in a box (not a flat envelope), our team will return the package to sender.

Emergency Packages: Help! My camper forgot their sneakers at home! I can’t fit these in a flat envelope??? And I need to do 1-day Amazon delivery!
No worries! Give our Office a call and discuss your emergency-package needs. They will pre-approve *IF APPROPRIATE* your boxed package, so when it arrives it will not be returned to sender.
Please remember, this is for emergency items only.
Birthday Packages: You can send a boxed package for your campers birthday!
Please let the Office know in advance. We are happy to hold onto it and deliver on their birthday. All prohibited items still apply for birthday packages.
How Reliable is the Mail? It is great! We are close partners with the Mukwonago USPS, and work in tandem to get mail in/out efficiently. While it rarely goes missing, it can take 4-8 days for a letter to reach camp/home, so keep that in mind when waiting for those first day of camp postcards.
Approved Devices
What is Beber's device policy?
At Beber Camp, we believe in the special opportunity of “dis-connection” that happens which we leave our screened devices at home.
Phones, tablets, gaming systems, digital cameras with video capabilities, and any device with a screen and service/data connection are prohibited.
Which devices are allowed?
Beber Camp does not assume responsibility for any lost, broken, or stolen items. As a general rule, anything valuable that a camper would be upset about losing, broken, ruined, or stolen should not be brought to camp.
E-books? iPods with screens?
We allow e-readers and music players with screens, as long as they do not have data service, games, or uploaded photos & videos. We know these can make bed-time/rest hour easier!
