As you finalize your forms for the summer, I want to take a moment to thank you for sharing such thoughtful information with us to help prepare for the upcoming summer. The health and wellness of our campers is our number one priority and the forms you have completed play a crucial role in the care we provide.I want to introduce the Beber Camp Community Care Team as the summer approaches. These incredible individuals are all here for you, ready to answer your questions and help you and your camper gear up for camp.
Camp Clinicians

Michelle is a former Beber camper returning after many years to work as a camp clinician. During the year, she works as a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice. She attended Northwestern University for undergraduate (Go 'Cats!) and graduate school in Los Angeles. She worked as a psychologist in NYC for several years prior to returning to her hometown of Louisville, KY. Michelle's passions are traveling to Latin America and learning Spanish. This is Mimi’s 16th summer at Beber Camp and her 4th summer as a Camp Clinician. She grew up going to Beber and loves spending her summers in Mukwonago (particularly her walks with campers during GA). During the school year, Mimi is a School Social Worker at an elementary school in Countryside, IL. She loves supporting kids with emotional regulation and expression, navigating social relationships, and self-management of behavior. When Mimi is not at camp, she can be found cooking up new recipes, participating in local community activism, traveling and playing with her dog, Maui. Her favorite camp hobbies include the musical/drama, paddleboarding, indoor cooking, and arts and crafts! Frannie is excited to return for her 3rd summer as a Camp Clinician. Frannie has a Master of Arts in Social Work from The University of Chicago and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). She is an elementary school social worker and also works in a private therapy practice in the northern suburbs of Chicago. Frannie has experience supporting and empowering children from preschool to high school through various phases of social-emotional development. Outside of work, Frannie enjoys cheering on her two active daughters during soccer, dance, theater, and basketball, laughing and dining out with her energetic, sports-obsessed husband, and volunteering for various community organizations. Although she has been a part of the Beber extended family, Rachel is excited for her first summer at camp in an official capacity as a camp clinician. Rachel has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Elementary Education from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from University of Missouri – Columbia. She is a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC). She worked at Northwestern University career services for 15+ years helping students navigate career decision making prior to starting her own small business. As a longtime camper of a Jewish overnight camp during her childhood, she looks forward to supporting campers and helping them to have a positive summer experience. Rachel lives in Northbrook with her husband Jason and her two children Bennett (11) and Reva (8). When Rachel is not at camp, you will most likely find her decorating cookies, playing tennis, or cheering her kids on during an ice hockey game. This will be Krystal’s 2nd summer at Beber. Krystal is a licensed clinical professional counselor and works with adolescents, young adults, and adults namely in the private practice setting. She currently owns a private practice in Northfield and enjoys working with folks who struggle with OCD, phobias, anxiety, social anxiety, and trauma. She worked as a caterer in a number of synagogue settings as well but before that, Krystal worked many years at Camp Henry Horner running the food service department. She even met her husband at CHH. She lives in Buffalo Grove with her husband Danny and her two children Eden (10) and Levi (7). Krystal enjoys a variety of activities including cooking, resale shopping, spending time with her family and friends, hanging out outside especially by the water, and volunteering. Inclusion
Jack Bender – Inclusion Supervisor
Jack is excited to return for his 13th summer at Beber Camp and 5th summer as the Inclusion Supervisor. Jack grew up going to Beber and greatly enjoys spending his summers on Lake Beulah. Jack holds teaching licenses in Elementary Education and Special Education, and can be found during the school year teaching 7th grade Language Arts and Social Studies at a middle school in Fitchburg, WI. Over the summer, Jack supervises the Yad B’ Yad inclusion program, ensuring that campers and assisted staff of all abilities are able to attend camp in an inclusive, welcoming environment. Health Center
Trudy Sirkis – Director for Health and Wellness and Special Projects and First Session Health Center Administrator
This will be Trudy's 27th summer at Beber. She supervises the first session Health Center medical team and works closely with parents and staff to ensure that all of our campers receive quality care and attention. Trudy has a master’s degree in Education and a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She was a middle school counselor for many years and has worked in higher education, teaching and providing academic advising and counseling. Alix Hoekzema - Second Session Health Center Administrator
This will be Alix’s third year supervising the second-session medical team, but this will be her 15th year at Beber. She was a camper, counselor, challenge course director, and division leader. Alix has a master’s degree in Speech and Hearing Science and is a speech pathologist, working with children for 10+ years in schools, private practice, and medical settings. She is the mother of three young daughters, and her passion is working with kids and helping them achieve their goals. She is so excited to return again this summer! This will be Maya’s 20th summer at camp. Maya was a camper at Beber and has worked for us as a counselor, division leader, and nurse. She has a bachelor’s degree in nursing and is a Registered Nurse, working at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. She is currently working on her Doctorate of Nursing Practice for Pediatric Acute and Primary Care at Johns Hopkins University. Maya reviews all the camper and staff medical forms (health history, physician examination, and immunization records) and communicates that information to our health center staff so that they are able to provide quality care to our campers. She will contact parents as she reviews forms if she has any questions. If you have any information or questions about your child’s medical needs, please contact Maya at maya@bebercamp.com.
