Climate-Controlled Cabins: Investing in Health and Wellness at Beber Camp
At Beber, our commitment to health and wellness is at the core of everything we do. As one of our five Beber Beliefs, we prioritize the well-being of our campers and staff, and this summer, we are taking a major step forward in enhancing their experience. We are excited to share that all of our cabins will now be climate-controlled, ensuring a healthier, more comfortable, and more sustainable indoor environment for everyone at camp.
Why Climate Control? It's About Health and Wellness
The decision to introduce climate-controlled cabins was driven by one key factor: the health and well-being of our camp community. We know that when campers and staff get quality sleep, they wake up feeling better, more energized, and ready to take on the day. Poor sleep due to extreme heat or cold can impact mood, energy levels, and even increase visits to the health center—something we always strive to minimize.
Beyond sleep, air quality is another important factor. Climate control allows us to filter out allergens and pollutants, providing a much-needed break on days with poor air quality. This is especially critical for campers and staff with respiratory concerns.
Climate Control, Not Just Air Conditioning

The mini-split systems we are installing provide climate control, not constant air conditioning. They will help take the edge off extreme heat and humidity during the day and evenings and will also provide warmth on those cooler nights. These systems will not be running all day, and cabins won’t be kept cold. Instead, they will create a more stable and comfortable environment that allows our community to thrive.
Supporting Our Staff’s Well-Being
A well-rested and healthy staff means a better experience for our campers. When our staff feel good, they have more energy, patience, and enthusiasm to create the magic of camp. Climate-controlled cabins are an investment in their well-being, ensuring they can focus on what they do best—mentoring, guiding, and caring for our campers.
"But This Isn’t Camp!"
Some may say, "This isn’t the camp experience I remember!" And they’re right. Beber Camp isn’t the camp of the 1980s, 1990s, or even the early 2000s. Camp has always evolved to meet the needs of our campers, and today’s youth are growing up in a world where climate control is the norm. Their bodies are conditioned to it, and we need to acknowledge that reality. More importantly, the world around us has changed—temperatures are hotter, air quality concerns are more prevalent, and our responsibility is to provide a safe, supportive environment where every camper can thrive.
At Beber, we continue to honor our traditions while embracing thoughtful progress. Climate-controlled cabins are not about luxury; they are about ensuring that our campers and staff can be at their best, every single day of the summer.
We can't wait for this next chapter in Beber’s history and look forward to seeing the positive impact this change will have on our camp community. See you this summer—rested, refreshed, and ready for an unforgettable camp experience!
