Celebrating 10 Years of Beber Camp's Aqua Park

A Vision for a Lasting Legacy
Did you know that this summer, we’re celebrating 10 years of the amazing Aqua Park at Beber Camp?

Beber alumnus Bennett Gewurz envisioned creating something special for campers that would become a lasting part of camp programming. When his sister, Mindy Gewurz Ludwig, passed away, Bennett wanted to honor her life and their family’s memories of her by giving back to the camp they all loved. The Gewurz family has deep roots at Beber—Mindy's two brothers, her two children, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews were all campers.

Bennett shared his idea for the Aqua Park with Michael Wax, and together, they set out to bring the vision to life. After finding the right vendors, they worked to create the perfect Aqua Park.

The Building Blocks of the Aqua Park
Our Aqua Park’s Wibit pieces come from a company named Commercial Recreation Specialists (CRS) in Verona, Wisconsin, where Michael and Stacy still collaborate with the same team who helped design the original course. Their sales partner, Bill, even visits Beber occasionally to say hello and assist with repairs when needed. Bill understands what our campers love and ensures everything remains safe for jumping and splashing around in the lake. We’re grateful for this ongoing partnership.

A Favorite Spot for Campers
On a typical day at camp, approximately 150 campers and staff enjoy the Aqua Park—that’s nearly half the camp population in each session! Campers can choose to participate in the Aqua Park hobby or enjoy the course during a cabin activity period. From bouncing on the giant trampoline to balancing on the plank, this ninja warrior-style water course offers something fun and challenging for everyone.

A Growing Tribute to Mindy’s Memory
Bennett’s goal of honoring his sister’s memory with a meaningful camp experience has created a legacy that continues to grow. The Aqua Park project began with just a few pieces, and it has now doubled in size. With generous donations from those who knew and loved Mindy, the original Aqua Park was assembled and dedicated in the summer of 2014.

Reflecting on this milestone, Bennett shared, “My hope is that the Aqua Park will continue to put smiles on campers’ faces and that one day, I’ll have the joy of watching my sister’s grandchildren, along with my grandchildren and great nieces and nephews, enjoying hobby hours on the Aqua Park dedicated in Mindy’s memory. I know my sister is looking down, smiling.”

A Decade of Fun and Family
This summer, we celebrate not only a decade of fun on the lake but also the lasting impact of one family’s vision and generosity.
